I love gadgets

What the Blog?

Wauw.

Gadgets, bleep bleep

Seems like every time I post on this blog, its about some gadget that I want, bought, or going to buy. Let this be no exception.

some posts ago I wrote about Elektroplankton, a kickass music game toy thingy for my Nintendo DS, which was designed by Japanese sound artist Toshio Iwai. Recently I googled his name to see what he is up to lately. And what I found is this, The Tenori-On, a musical light instrument he's involved with in collaboration with Yamaha. And after seeing it in action all that my geeky techno brain could think was "man, I want that". All I need to be entertained is funny bleeps and pretty lights, so this thing seems right for me.

Unfortunately the machine isn't for sale yet, and I cant find anywhere when its going to be on sale. But on the bright side, I do know that the Nintendo Wii is gonna come out a week after my birthday. I know what my present is going to be.

ps: Check out Toshio Iwai's blog, also on blogspot.

A Fly Hobby

Another Month, another hobby. Last month I discovered the delights of solving Perplex CityPuzzle cards, thanks to one of my favorite shops Subcultures. The one I am talking about right now started last week in the city were my girlfriend lives. We walked past a store where they sell model toys and there I saw it: The X-Twin. This ready to fly remote controlled airplane practically begged to be bought by me, so I couldn't resist. And it was a real bargain at 30 euro's.

Ah, the good times me and that little plane had. We flew all Saturday evening and Sunday evening too. That is, until I discovered that X-twins and moving cars don't really go together. Especially when the plane is under the car.

So, to make a long story short, I sold the debris and still working remote controller to some freak on the internet and bought myself a new one. Although I won't be flying close to moving cars anymore, you might see me enjoying this little machine in my street in Utrecht.

Clothes make the man

First of all I'm not even going to start about how long ago it was that I posted on this blog. (oh, wait, I just did. Oh well). No, I'll just get right on with writing some story about stuff that's going on with me these days.

This Friday me and my girlfriend are going to VerPakt, a kind of award show that's organized by the study association of my university where short films made by the students are awarded. Of course I would normally go there anyway, but since one of my Katanjeman films is nominated for the 'most original' category I am kind of more obliged to make an appearance.
The problem however is the dresscode for this evening. Since they are trying to make this awardshow look more prestigious than it really is they are sort of forcing upon us to come in black tie. What? I have to get or rent a tuxedo or at least wear some sort of tie? One of the most uncomfortable and useless pieces of clothing ever created for a man? (I secretly think that ties are created by women as some sort of revenge for them wearing high heels).

The rebel in me didn't take long to decide that this was out of the question, and that this whole dresscode thing is a stupid idea. Therefore I am going to buy this Nintendo shirt tomorrow and wear that with a black jacket. Just my useless little way of saying no to the powers that be.

Arigato Nippon

I love the Japanese. I mean, we know that they're really good at imitating products that are from the West of the world map, and make it slightly cheaper or "improved". So, tonight I'm going to take a sip of the Black Nikka Whiskey that I got from my girlfriend, and I'm going to watch this Japanese live-action Spiderman episode. And event though it is subtitled by a fan, I am pretty sure that I will be more able to understand what it is about with the help of my language course.

Sayonara!
